Dream Home? Let’s Go for Best House Possible

HUTS is not in the dream home business. HUTS is in the best house possible business.
Our clients are often surprised that we’re “policing” their ambitions during the design phase of their projects. It’s not because we lack creativity or have some desire to quash anyone’s vision of their dream home.
Quite the opposite.
We maintain strict guardrails throughout the design process because we want our client’s dream to have a new home to become a reality, instead of falling through due to runaway or unknown costs. The sad truth in single-family residential design is that too many plans never make it off the page. Architects get carried away designing a showpiece home without sufficient insight into how much each design choice might add to the final construction cost. By the time the client has fallen in love with the plan, it often proves to be prohibitively expensive, triggering a budget crisis and, in some cases, project abandonment.
At HUTS, our approach is very different. We deliberately work backwards from each client’s budget and development pro forma, ensuring that every design decision aligns with practical cost constraints right from the start. Using our well-honed Standards—which effectively standardize many aspects of our projects—we can predict costs with a high level of accuracy. This level of cost certainty keeps our design decisions anchored to the budget, drastically reducing the risk of unpleasant financial surprises later on.
Balancing design aspirations with concrete financial constraints is how we ensure your future home is not only beautiful but also viable. As a result of this (and a lot of protocols in the HUTS process), nearly all the projects we begin actually get built. We want to make sure your investment results in a home you can live in, not a set of impractical drawings.
By helping you determine what truly matters—be it premium finishes, more space, or an ideal location—we help bring your best possible house to life, rather than leaving it stuck on paper.
