Bethlehem Road

Overview

The site for Bethlehem Road is situated on a serene beaver pond close to Callicoon Center, NY. We sourced the land for our client and designed a main home, an ADU, and some wellness amenities, including two outdoor firepit areas and a sauna. The entire plot is laid out to highlight the views of the pond from both structures.

Our client was a writer who wanted a rental property they could also use as a contemplative retreat to maximize creativity. The ADU serves as an added guest space for renters, but it’s equipped with a writing desk, custom bookshelves, and large windows to create the perfect writer’s retreat when the owner is on-site.

Key Features

01Light on the land

The design includes concrete piers that lift the home off the ground to reduce the amount of excavation required and minimize the impact on the land. The natural fern bed can continue to grow right under the home, uninterrupted.

02English styling

We designed the interiors of Bethlehem Road to bring to mind the English countryside. The heavy millwork and mid-century modern accents create a fairy-tale-like feel, resulting in a truly unique space for the area.

03Writer’s cabin

We adapted the ADU to provide a cozy writer’s nook for our client that allows for inspiration from the surrounding nature but also adds square footage and additional sleeping spaces for guests.

Interiors

Bethlehem Road merges indoor and outdoor spaces using sophisticated millwork, natural materials like large slab countertops, and massive picture windows. We designed the interior to feel almost Cotswold-y, which adds some whimsy but keeps the picture of the surrounding woods and lake as the focal point.
