Devil Track Lake
Overview
Set on four wooded acres along the edge of Lake Superior, Devil Track Lake serves as both a second home for a couple from Minneapolis and also as a family compound. It features a main structure built around our Big L standard, an ADU, and a standalone garage that multiple generations can enjoy together.
We optimized for flexible living spaces that allow the client to “downsize on site” when it’s just them and expand into additional living areas and structures when children and grandchildren come to visit.

The three-structure design allows for privacy even when hosting family and friends. It also creates a camp-like setting that makes the space feel like an exciting private summer resort rather than a typical lake house.
02Screened-in dining area
We added a custom screened-in dining area to extend outdoor use and help make the most of the beautiful scenery, even when bugs would otherwise be a deterrent.
03Delayed views
The main home is set right on the edge of a dense forest. The trees make the space feel private, and they block the line of sight to the lake until you’re inside and can fully appreciate the views.
