Our client purchased a subdivisable parcel in the White Mountain for investment purposes, and engaged HUTS to design and develop the land for the highest and best use. The first home site will host a modified HUTS Medium Bar, with a full walk-out basement, taking advantage of the steep slope. The large deck is positioned to take advantage of sweeping views of the White Mountain range and nearby Mount Washington.

Oriented Towards the View

Upon arrival, one enters the home at grade into what, at first, appears to be a modest home. When you walk through and into the great room, the expansive view comes into focus. Exiting out onto the deck, the visitor will be above the treetops, more than 10 feet above the ground below.

Aligning the View

The experience of this home is as much about living within it as seeing it through it. We carefully aligned all of the window and door openings, treating the home as the frame through which the mountain landscape is viewed.

Engaging the Slope

We worked with the topography, rather than against it. A full walk-out basement adds storage and livable space, while reducing the amount of required site grading.

Solid Ground

A stone-clad wood-burning fireplace grounds one end of the home, creating weight and a focal point in the living / kitchen / dining space. The rock veneer will be locally-sourced from the parcel.

Big Views

We utilized a collection of standard sliding door sizes to create massive views, without the giant price tag (and structural implications) of a full width glass wall.
