We designed a massive wall of windows that opens the primary bedroom up to the outdoor space. This lets the interior flow visually into the nature outside, and the covered enclave just beyond the glass creates an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air regardless of the weather.

Watersmeet
Overview
We designed Watersmeet to serve as a hybrid home for a client in Chicago, who plans to transition to the property full-time in the future. It’s on 26 quiet acres on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the structure is set back just 75 feet from the edge of Clearwater Lake.
The home is situated on a chain of lakes, providing endless canoeing and kayaking routes. It's secluded enough to feel like an isolated summer camp, but close enough to nearby towns to be convenient and livable year round

Locally-sourced building materials on the exterior make the entire structure feel aligned with the surrounding area, as if it were grown from the land rather than being placed on it. Large picture windows and glass doors around the property let natural light into every living space.

Interiors
We used a soft, natural, and unobtrusive color palette inside to let the surrounding area take center stage. Windows and glass doors are positioned to capture tons of natural light regardless of the season or time of day. White oak mill work sourced from the area creates an elegant appearance but also helps keep the space feeling natural.
