Hybrid Home in Action

We designed this ski house to pay for itself.

That’s the whole idea behind a hybrid home, which is a new kind of asset class that we’ve had the opportunity to define over the last few years. But it’s still cool to see the plan playing out in the real world.

A hybrid home is largely for people who rent their primary home in major metropolitan areas and don’t want to leave. But they also want to build equity somewhere. And they also want a second home they can use on weekends. And they also want some income opportunity.

Enter: the hybrid home. It’s built for you, and you get to use it when you want, but you rent it out when you’re not there to offset the mortgage.

This house in Southern Vermont is one of the best examples of a hybrid home we’ve designed because the owners want to be there during the ski season, when most STRs in the area see their peak demand and occupancy rates.

We created multiple outdoor spaces that flex with the weather and the needs of the guests to make the home appealing in the off-season. We positioned the home steps away from a natural brook that will draw people in through the spring and summer, and we tiered the usable space between the stream and the back door to let renters sprawl out across the landscape. It’s a ski house with a property designed to draw attention in the spring, summer, and fall.

The result is a ski house that pays for itself. Mission accomplished.
